Why Must Read Criminal Law, Cases and Materials (American Casebook Series)?

Criminal law textbooks can be so hit or miss. This textbook had good case selections but seemed to focus on the shocking cases rather than how some of the law more commonly are used. Overall it was a good criminal law book but focused too much on the extremes for me.
