I am always sceptical of devotionals. Too many of them are fad publications that make you feel good inside while you sip your coffee and bask in false prosperity teaching. But God does not call us to a life of sunshine, moonbeams, and butterflies. He says to us, "pick up your cross and follow me." So although i enjoyed and was inspired by season one of The Chosen and knew that the devotional went along with the series, I still had my doubts. However this little book is following through so far. It's certainly far from The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis, but I don't think anything will come close to that classic. Anyway here is a sample of this book and the inspiration in its pages. "...and Jesus was doubling down. He knew what lay ahead. He knew He was leaving. And He knew they would become pillars of the early church, in charge of spreading the truth about salvation in the world, discipling the masses, and claiming Christ in the face of imprisonment, torture, and death. They would lose their lives on earth --figureatively and literally--for the sake of all they would gain in heaven." There are questions at the end of each devotion and a personal application. You do not have to view the series to benefit from what this little book offers. It is not "happy happy" but it will inspire and challenge you, and you will be touched by God's love. It has earned a place on my bookshelf.
