Why Must Read The Manga Artist's Workbook: Easy-to-Follow Lessons for Creating Your Own Characters?
May be a good starting point but not sure if this is for the absolute beginner. It has some instructions then tracing paper over a gridded page with an outline for the first several examples (the tracing paper is not throughout the book but the gridded lines are. ) There are different angles shown for both the girl & boy figures, along with different eye types, poses, etc. I'll update once the drawings begin...
